GPS accuracy and battery
How accurate the GPS has to be, why sections are sometimes missing and how to save battery.
The app is in German for now, so button names are quoted in German with the English meaning in brackets.
How accurate does the GPS have to be?
Location fixes less accurate than 35 m are discarded. A street is recognised if your track is at most about 15 m off it.
In narrow old-town lanes or between tall buildings the GPS can jump. Some sections may then be missing. If in doubt, walk through a second time.
Save battery
Keep the screen off during the tour and put your phone away. CLAYM keeps recording.
The iPhone normally doesn’t pause recording in the background. All that matters is the location permission, see Allow location access.
Some Android phones stop apps in the background to save battery. CLAYM then shows the hint “Akku-Sparen kann Touren unterbrechen” (battery saving can interrupt tours). Exclude CLAYM from battery saving:
- Press and hold the CLAYM icon and tap App info.
- Tap Battery and choose “Unrestricted”.
The names differ slightly between manufacturers.
